Social media assets
In 2019 alone, we have witnessed, in the news, countless examples of Black girls on the receiving end of excessive and punitive discipline in schools. This disturbing and well - documented trend, also known as PushOut, has far-reaching and damaging consequences with devastating effects on Black girls’ academic, social, and emotional lives.
At the National Black Women’s Justice Institute, we use our research, like the data in these social media assets, to drive actions and policies to end the criminalization of Black girls and to support educators, parents, and policymakers to create non-punitive, nondiscriminatory, and safe learning environments.
Schools should be locations of learning. But first, we must transform them into locations for healing. We must work together to end school pushout for Black girls and other girls of color and create spaces for them to learn, heal and thrive in schools and beyond!
We encourage you to share this social media deck and our End School PushOut infographic with your network to help shift the public narrative about valuing our girls! We also encourage you to view and share our report, End School PushOut for Black Girls and Other Girls of Color: Federal, State, and Local Policy Recommendations.
Our girls are sacred and loved.
